I write most of my music by doing endless improvisations in my house. Instead of watching TV, (the pain often makes concentrating to read difficult) I pick up my violin and make music.
Due to a major injury and full hand reconstruction surgery years ago, my first finger on my left hand has nothing but bone on bone in my knuckle. When I play the violin to soothe my pain it actually CAUSES ME MORE PAIN. Sometimes it’s just ridiculous how much it hurts.
I won’t let the pain of making music keep me from making music. I also won’t just load up on pills and ‘gidder dun’.
Life is a delicate balance between listening to your body and sometimes telling your body to shut up and listen to you. I don’t claim to have it all figured out but I’m working on that balance a day at a time.
