There can be no discussion of the spiritual without belief in the existence of Spirit

The Greek word for breath and spirit is the same—Pneuma. That’s where we got our name.  Pneumanta.

For our purpose as it relates to chronic pain, we want to focus on the human spirit. Our spirit is our strongest ally in staying alive. Our spirit is the reason we cry when we hear a song without even knowing why. Our spirit is where and how we are inspired to live our lives.

Our spirit is our greatest energy resource. Like a battery.

And like a battery…it NEEDS RECHARGING. When we don’t do things that recharge us at a spiritual level, we get really tired. Any athlete will tell you—when you get tired and keep grinding is when you get hurt.

When we regenerate the human spirit, we get our legs back. We become truly human again. In a world of chronic pain and never ending, screaming discomfort the first casualty is our humanity.

THIS IS THE SECTION WHERE WE DO THE REAL GROUNDWORK TO REPAIR THE MIND AND THE BODY. IT’S NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART BUT WE FIND IT PAYS THE BIGGEST DIVIDENDS IN THE END.

Hip hop spa-radio kings

This is just another tiny behind the scenes taste of some of what we tracked. We won’t know for a while yet what will or won’t make the final record but I think this track has a little something that we can use. It’s obviously raw and unfinished but it’s just a peek under the…

What bone on bone pain sounds like

I write most of my music by doing endless improvisations in my house. Instead of watching TV, (the pain often makes concentrating to read difficult) I pick up my violin and make music. Due to a major injury and full hand reconstruction surgery years ago, my first finger on my left hand has nothing but…

“Kelly’s Song” Music made for people in pain

This is a short clip of some of the music that Matt and me made while I was in LA. I believe that music is the most important tool in healing the human spirit and I will be outlining how I work on myself and my spirit to keep me going through unbelievable adversity and…

The Weeping Buddha is not a new story but I have taken it and appropriated it as a symbol for being a pain champion. If you see the pain and sorrow in the pose you realize that this…

Music is MAGIC

Recent studies confirm that what artists and native indigenous cultures have known and practiced for millennia…MUSIC IS MORE THAN WALLPAPER SOUND for parties, social gatherings and holidays. Music has a profound and lasting effect on the brain.  This is important to our discussion of chronic discomfort and unpleasant sensation in the body in a number of…

Hurt Like Tom Brady?

There’s a great article in the Washington Post about how Tom Brady has been a laughing stock of NFL trainers and others who think that yoga and mindfulness are the stuff of … well, other than football. Albeit with a little help from the Falcons, Tom Brady just proved otherwise. At 39 he just played maybe the…

Pain Can Be a Firm Foundation

You’ll hear yoga instructors often say “Return to your breath”. This usually occurs just about the time you are thinking “How am I paying for this shit?” or “Why am I even here in this stupid contortion pose, cramping and cutting off my ability to breathe right?”  And that’s the point…when the immediate physical, mental,…

Pain Breathing 101

One of the hardest things to do is to put into practice an already vague idea that you read about in a book or online. That’s why people pay a lot of money to have someone teach them how to meditate or breathe or do pilates “correctly”. Having the benefit of being so banged up…

Loneliness and Pain

It’s a fact of science that loneliness causes inflammation of the brain. If you’re alone or without substantive meaningful human contact it can actually cause depression and heighten chronic discomfort. I know because I spent almost of all of 2014 and 2015 more or less alone if I wasn’t with a medical professional or with…

Slow. Your. Roll. Mo.

You’ll never hear a nurse say, “Doctor there’s a Hurry Up in room four that needs urgent attention.” You’ll never be asked “Have you ever been a Hurry Up of ours before?” Why? Because the people who make stuff like that up know that it takes for fucking ever to heal sometimes. And that healing…
